Research

Research is important to understand the drivers and barriers to farm business management, along with changing needs and best practices over time. The research listed below helps us understand the current landscape of farm business management and opportunities to build the programs and services that best serve our farmers now and moving forward.

The Dollars and Sense study was the first to establish a measurable link between farm business management and profitability. Farmers can stand to increase their profitability by up to 525% by adopting business management practices. Unfortunately, only 25% of farms have a written business plan, and less still (8%) have a succession plan.

The Baseline Study helps us understand farmers’ attitudes towards planning and where they go for support.
